  • Evaluation of the Course of “Being a Friend with Patients”

    Objective To assess the effectiveness of the course of “Being a Friend with Patients”. Methods There were three parts in this course: (1) To experience what the empathy was, by counseling activities; (2) To accompany patients in hospital; (3) To share the experience after accompanying. There were 118 participants who were freshmen at the end of 2005. Results and Conclusions According to feedback from the students, they understand empathy and how the patients feel after the counseling. The course is accepted by all students. It may help students to be more attentive to and concerned about their patients, and to provied help for them.

  • Construction and evaluation of advanced nursing practice course for postgraduate students in nursing

    ObjectiveTo explore course content and teaching-learning strategies of advanced nursing practice in graduate nursing education, so as to provide reference for nursing schools to develop relevant courses.MethodsA teamof course teachers was set up, and the course was developed. The course was implemented in grade 2015 and 2016 graduate nursing students. The students’ perception and evaluation of course contents, teaching methods, teaching quality, curriculum value and course satisfaction were collected through questionnaires and interviews.ResultsA totalof 23 students were enrolled. The mean scores of teaching quality, curriculum value and course satisfaction were 93.48±1.01, 51.04±4.88, and 17.00±2.28, respectively. Students recognized the necessity and the importance of including the advanced nursing practice in each specialty in the course content, and hoped to add in practice sections.ConclusionsIt is advisable to include the advanced nursing practice in each specialty as well as the practice section, so as to strengthen the students’ concrete understanding of the advanced nursing practice. Seminar and discussion are the teaching methods with first priority.

  • Methodological quality assessment of clinical guidelines and consensus for lupus nephritis

    Objective To assess the methodological quality of clinical guidelines and consensus of lupus nephritis, to collect the recommendations of each guideline, and to provide references for clinical decision-making. Methods PubMed, CNKI, and CBM databases and related websites such as NGC, NICE, GIN, SIGN, and Medive were electronically searched from January 2012 to December 2020 to collect the clinical guidelines and expert consensus for lupus nephritis. After consistency evaluation by four evaluators, the methodological quality of the included guidelines or expert consensus was evaluated using AGREE Ⅱ. The relevant recommendations, evidence level, and recommended strength of each guideline in treating lupus nephritis were summarized. Results A total of eight guidelines and two consensus statements were included. Among them, eight guidelines or consensus statements were level B (generally recommended guidelines), and two were level C (non-recommended guidelines). Relevant recommendations mainly gave the corresponding treatment scheme according to the pathological type of lupus nephritis. Conclusion The methodological quality of lupus nephritis guideline formulation in China needs to be improved. The included guidelines and consensus can provide reference for clinical decision-makers. However, higher-quality clinical practice guidelines for the Chinese population are needed to be developed in the future.

    Gordon Henry Guyatt(1953-)is a professor of Department of Clinical Epidemiology amp; Biostatistics and Department of Medicine in McMaster University. He has engaged in evidence-based clinical research and practice for about 20 years. In 1992, he first proposed the term “evidence-based medicine” in one of his articles published in JAMA. He is dedicated to bringing the wonderful idea of evidence-based medicine to bedside and systematically training clinicians from all over the world to acquire the basic skills for evidence-based clinical practice. His great contribution to evidence-based medicine is introduced in this article through demonstrating the development of evidence-based clinical practice.

  • Interpretation and evaluation of Chinese guideline for diagnosis and treatment of osteoarthritis (2021 edition)

    Chinese guideline for diagnosis and treatment of osteoarthritis (2021 edition) was published in the Chinese Journal of Orthopaedics, providing abundant recommendations on osteoarthritis (OA) issues. In this paper, the methodological and reporting qualities of the guideline were explained and assessed by using quality appraisal tools, such as appraisal of guidelines research and evaluation-China (AGREE-China), Institute of Medicine Committee (IOM), and reporting items for practice guidelines in healthcare (RIGHT). It also aimed to provide personalized treatments for specific patients, support readers in understanding the principle of OA treatment, and standardize OA treatment strategies. In addition, this study would contribute to the clinical promotion of the current guidelines and provide the necessary references for clinical practice guidelines in treating OA in the future.

  • Methodological quality assessment of clinical practice guidelines for cervical cancer in China from 2014 to 2018

    ObjectivesTo assess the methodological quality of clinical practice guidelines of cervical cancer in China published from 2014 to 2018.MethodsCNKI, WanFang Data, CBM, VIP, Medlive.cn, the National Guideline Clearinghouse, PubMed, The Cochrane Library and EMbase were searched for cervical cancer clinical practice guidelines published in China from January 1st, 2014 to December 31st, 2018. Four reviewers searched and selected the literature independently according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria and assessed the methodological quality of the included guidelines by using AGREE Ⅱ.ResultsA total of 9 guidelines were included. The average score for each area was: scope and purpose 75.47%, stakeholders’ involvement 35.09%, the rigor of development 43.70%, clarity of presentation 87.74%, applicability 80.76%, and editorial independence 0%.ConclusionsThe quality of cervical cancer clinical practice guidelines in China requires further improvement.

  • Guideline of integrated Chinese and western medicine for diagnosis and treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

    Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), with high prevalence rate, mortality, and disability rate, and heavy burden caused by the disease, has become a major chronic disease seriously threatening public health worldwide. Chinese medicine and Western medicine both have advantages in diagnosing and treating COPD, which have been widely used in clinic. In order to improve the diagnostic and treatment level for COPD with integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine, Chinese Medicine of internal Medicine Committee of World federation of Chinese Medicine Societies organized and established a multidisciplinary background working group, the document was formulated by referring to the formulating method and process of international guidelines in clinical practice, current evidence with the best quality, and characteristics of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine in treating COPD and weighing pros and cons of interventions, 13 recommendations were established, physicians can refer to this guideline to formulate individualized treatment plans in combination with the specific conditions of patients.
