Objective To discuss the epidemiological characteristics of young and middle-aged people infected with COVID-19 in Gansu province under the new epidemic policy. Methods A total of 1800 people were collected from two tertiary hospitals in Gansu province from November 8, 2022 to January 28, 2023. The vaccination status, nucleic acid antigen detection, the specific time of infection, main symptoms and severity of the disease were investigated. Results Among 1800 participants, 1685 (93.6%) were vaccinated and 1565 (86.9%) were infected with COVID-19. Among the 1565 infected persons, 523 (33.4%) completed both nucleic acid and antigen testing, 382 (24.4%) completed nucleic acid testing, 490 (31.3%) completed antigen testing, 170 (10.9%) received IgG testing. 1490 (95.2%) were slight ill, 75 (4.8%) were critical ill, and 96 (6.1%) were hospitalized, and no one died. In 2022, 92 cases (5.9%) were infected in the first half of November, 141 cases (9.1%) in the second half of November, 630 cases (40.3%) in the first half of December, and 553 cases (35.4%) in the second half of December. 109 cases (7.0%) were infected in the first half of January, 38 cases (2.2%) in the second half of January, and 2 cases (0.1%) in the first half of February of 2023. and no cases in the second half of February. Among the 1565 infected persons, 825 (52.7%) had respiratory symptoms, 293 (18.7%) had gastrointestinal symptoms, 257 (16.4%) had autonomic disorders, 140 (8.9%) had other symptoms such as decreased smell and taste, and 48 (3.3%) had no symptoms after infection. Conclusions The vaccination rate of young and middle-aged people in Lanzhou city of Gansu Province is high. Since the new policy, the infection rate of the novel coronavirus among young and middle-aged people is high, the number of antigen tests is more than nucleic acid tests, most of the infected patients are slight, with fewer critical patients, and the hospitalization rate is low. The peak of infection occurred in early December 2022, and the infection rate was basically zero by February 2023. The main symptoms of COVID-19 infection are mainly respiratory tract, followed by digestive tract and autonomic nervous system disorders, and few patients are completely asymptomatic.
We reported one case of MTX-induced aplastic anemia and reviewed related literature to investigate the mechanism of action of MTX, and summarize the clinical feature, diagnostic criteria, risk factor, and interventions. These were hoped to arouse the attention of clinicians and clinical pharmacists, in order to effectively prevent, diagnose, and treat MTX-induced aplastic anemia.
Objective To understand the current situation of the use and cognition of personal protective equipment (PPE) by healthcare workers in the isolation wards (rooms) during the coronavirus disease 2019 epidemic, and provide data support for the country to further optimize the configuration of PPE and carry out more targeted training and supervision. Methods In March 2020, healthcare workers in isolation wards (rooms) in provinces and cities in the country were investigated by filling in a questionnaire about the use of different levels of PPE. Results A total of 6 859 questionnaires were collected from 29 provinces and cities, containing 5 935 valid questionnaires (86.53%). Among them, there were 448 assisting-Hubei medical team members and 5 487 non-assisting-Hubei healthcare workers. The actual use rate (74.22%) and intended use rate (73.14%) of surgical masks in the cleaning areas were the highest. The actual use rate and intended use rate of working caps in potentially contaminated areas and contaminated areas were higher than 90%. There were various combinations of protective articles, and there were significant differences between actual use and intention (P<0.05). Except for the boot covers (single layer) in the cleaning areas, the working caps, isolation clothing and boot covers (double layer) in the potential pollution areas, and the protective face screens, working caps, three-layer shoe covers and single/double/three-layer boot covers in the pollution areas-splashing operations (P>0.05), the actual utilization rates of protective articles of the assisting-Hubei medical team members were generally higher than those of the non-assisting-Hubei healthcare workers (P<0.05). Conclusions The instructions for the use of PPE in different areas and operations should be further refined, and standardized training should be increased. The phenomenon of non-standard use of protective equipment should be reduced, and a safety barrier should be provided to the healthcare workers.
ObjectiveTo observe and analyze the short-term effects of intravitreal injection of Conbercept (IVC) on the expression levels of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP inhibitor-2 (TIMP-2) in the aqueous humor of eyes with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). MethodsA prospective clinical study. From March 2024 to June 2024, 30 consecutive patients with 30 eyes with PDR (PDR group) undergoing IVC combined with pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) at Department of Ophthalmology of The First Affiliated Hospital of University of Science and Technology were included in the study, along with 20 patients with 20 eyes undergoing cataract surgery (control group) during the same period. In the PDR group, IVC treatment was performed 3 to 7 days before PPV, and 0.05-0.10 ml aqueous humor was collected before IVC and before PPV. In the control group, 0.05-0.10 ml aqueous humor was collected before cataract surgery. The levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), MMP-2, and TIMP-2 in the aqueous humor were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. For normally distributed data, independent samples t-test were used for comparison between two groups; for non-normally distributed data, the Mann-Whitney U test was used. Correlation analysis was performed using Pearson's correlation coefficient. ResultsThere were no statistically significant differences in age (Z=-1.810) and gender composition (χ2=3.450) between the PDR group and the control group (P>0.05). Before IVC, VEGF and MMP-2 expression levels were (0.23±0.10), (2.11±1.32) ng/ml and (0.12±0.03), (0.53±0.26) ng/ml in patients' aqueous fluid in PDR group and control group, respectively. The expression level of TIMP-2 and the ratio of MMP-2/TIMP-2 were (0.99±0.26), (1.76±0.11) ng/ml and 2.04 (1.19, 2.98), 0.36 (0.15, 0.39), respectively. Compared with the control group, the expression levels of VEGF and MMP-2 in aqueous humor in PDR group (t=-5.030, -5.260) and the ratio of MMP-2/TIMP-2 (Z=-5.740) were significantly increased, with statistical significance (P<0.01). The expression level of TIMP-2 was significantly lower than that of control group, the difference was statistically significant (t=12.120, P<0.01). After IVC, the expression levels of VEGF and MMP-2 in aqueous humor of PDR patients were (0.13±0.03) and (2.11±1.32) ng/ml, respectively. The expression level of TIMP-2 and the ratio of MMP-2/ TIMP-2 were (0.95±0.28) ng/ml and 1.57 (1.02, 3.13), respectively. Compared with before IVC, the expression level of VEGF in aqueous humor in PDR group after IVC was significantly decreased, and the difference was statistically significant (t=6.080, P<0.01). The expression levels of MMP-2 (t=1.220), TIMP-2 (t=0.290) and the ratio of MMP-2/TIMP-2 (Z=-0.260) were not significantly different (P=0.270, 0.780, 0.800). After IVC, there was no significant difference in VEGF expression level between PDR group and control group (t=-1.200, P=0.240). The expression level of MMP-2 was still significantly increased (t=-5.880), the expression level of TIMP-2 was still significantly decreased (t=11.520), and the ratio of MMP-2/TIMP-2 was still significantly increased (Z=-5.780), with statistical significance (P<0.01). Correlation analysis showed that VEGF was positively correlated with MMP-2 in aqueous humor of PDR patients before IVC (r=0.590, P<0.01). ConclusionsIVC can effectively reduce the level of VEGF in the aqueous humor of eyes with PDR in the short term, but it has no significant effect on the levels of MMP-2 and TIMP-2.
