The femoral veins were excised from 28 dogs and distended with pressure of 40, 80 and 120 kPa, respectively before grafted to femoral arteries. The veins were harvested at different times and Pollak sections were prepared which revealed different stains of elastin, collagen and smooth muscle in each section. The sections were led to image analysis system to computerize the relative contents of theabove components. The results were as follows: Elastin decreased significantly at 4 weeks (P lt;0.01), and was constant between 4 and 16 weeks. No statistical difference was found in 40, 80 kPa and the control group (P gt;0.05), but the elastin of 120 kPa group by the 16th week was still decreasing. Collagen of each group had no difference, but C/E increased significantly with time. Smooth muscle contents were correlated positively with time, and negatively with the pressure at 1 week, then positively with the pressure at 16th week. The changes of the above trends were the same as development of intimal hyperplasia. The contentions were the value of C/E was determined by the arterial pressure but that of 120 kPa pressure was more higher. The preimplant pressure distension was a possible significantfactor leading to excessive intimal hyperplasia of early and middle stage of autogenous vein grafts.
Objective To investigate the effect of the morphological changes in the proximal femur on the prothesis selection in the total hip arthroplasty in the patients with ankylosing spondylitis. Methods The experimental group was composed of 13 patients (16 hips) with ankylosing spondylitis, which was treated with the total hip arthroplasty, and the control group was composed of 16 patients(19 hips)with non-ankylosing spondylitis,which was also treated with the total hip arthroplasty. In the two groups, the measurements of Singh index,canal flare index,morphological index of the cortex and cortical index were performed in the two groups. Results The results of the statistical analysis on Singh index,canal flare index, morphological index of the cortex and cortical index in the experimental group were 3.81±0.54, 2.63±0.41, 2.02±0.38 and 1.69±0.69, respectively, but 4.63±0.62, 3.03±0.27, 2.76±0.28 and 2.12±0.24, respectively in the control group. Therewas a significant difference in Singh index, canal flare index, and morphological index of the cortex between the two groups (Plt;0.05),while there was no statistical difference in cortical index between the two groups (P>0.05). The patientswith ankylosing spondylitis had more serious osteoporosis in their proximal femur. Conclusion Cemented femoral prosthesis should be used in the total hip replacement in patients with ankylosing spondylitis, and the revision total hip arthroplasty should be performed on patients with more serious osteoporosis.
Repair of bone defect by compound of bone morphogenic protein (BMP) and its prior bone matrix gelatin (BMG) was compared with repair by BMP with hydroxyapatite(HA). The results showed that the BMP/BMG group was found fibrous callus in the bone defect in 4th week. In 8th week a large quantity of osseos trabecula was found. In 12th week the BMP was absorbed completely and was replaced by newly formed bone. In 16th week the recanalization appeared in the bone cavity. While in the BMP/HA group, although the fibrous callus was appeared in the 4th and 8th weeks, the HA was not absorbed. In the 12th and 16th weeks the change was similar to that in the 8th week and no recanalization of bone marrow cavity. It was suggested the BMP/BMG compound might be an ideal material to repair the bone defect.
OBJECTIVE: To explore the distribution and effect of endogenic bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) in repairing rabbit skull with tissue engineered bone. METHODS: The autologous osteoblast-like cells were instantly implanted onto polyglycolic acid (PGA) matrix coated with collagen. The rabbit skull defect models were established by resection of bilateral 1.5 cm x 1.0 cm full-thickness parietal bone in 18 New Zealand rabbits, which were randomly divided into two groups. In one group, the composite of osteoblast- like cells and PGA matrix were grafted into the defect on one side of the skull as experimental group I, leaving the same defect area on the other side as control group without any graft implanted. In the other group, simply PGA was done in the same way as experimental group II. The tissue samples were harvested at 3, 8 and 14 days postoperatively and examined by histological and immunohistochemistry methods. The concentrations of BMP in different regions of the samples were measured using computer image analysis system. RESULTS: After 3 days of operation, the BMP positive cells were found in the matrix of experimental group I. At 8 days postoperatively, the formation of new bone on experimental group I was prior to that of experimental group II and control group. On the 14th day, bone trabecula was formed on the experimental group I, but there was only fibrous tissue on control group. The concentration of BMP on the experimental group I and II were higher than that of corresponding region on control side. CONCLUSION: The osteoblast-like cells instantly implanted onto PGA matrix can synthesize and secrete BMP. It may be one of the reasons of tissue engineered bone inducing new bone regeneration that localizing endogenic BMP in bone defect area, increasing the concentration of endogenic BMP and improving its distribution by tissue engineering technique.
In order to conduct surface monitoring of the three-dimensional spine morphology of the human body in daily life, a spine morphology measuring method using "single camera, multi-view" to construct stereo vision is proposed. The images of the back of the human body with landmarks of spinous process are captured from multiple angles by moving a single camera, and based on the "Zhang Zhengyou calibration method" and the triangulation principle of binocular stereo vision, the spatial conversion matrices corresponding to each other between all images and the 3D coordinates of the landmarks are calculated. Then the spine evaluation angle used to evaluate the spine morphology is further calculated. The tests’ results showed that the spine evaluation angle error of this method is within ±3°, and the correlation between the results and the X-ray film Cobb angles is 0.871. The visual detection algorithm used in this paper is non-radioactive, and because only one camera is used in the measurement process and there is no need to pre-set the camera's shooting pose, the operation is simple. The research results of this article can be used in a mobile phone-based intelligent detection system, which will be suitable for the group survey of scoliosis in communities, schools, families and other occasions, as well as for the long-term follow-up of confirmed patients. This will provide a reference for doctors to diagnose the condition, predict the development trend of the condition, and formulate treatment plans.
Obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) can affect the growth and development of minors. Although the gold standard for OSAHS diagnosis is an overnight polysomnography, its clinical application is limited due to the high requirements for equipment and environmental conditions. Body shape indicators can reflect the accumulation of fat in specific parts of the body. In recent years, body shape indicators (body mass index, neck circumference, waist circumference, waist to hip ratio, waist to height ratio, neck circumference to height ratio) have been increasingly used in the evaluation of minor OSAHS. This article will review the application of the above body shape indicators in the evaluation of minor OSAHS, aiming to provide a basis for better use of these indicators in the diagnosis and treatment of minor OSAHS.
ObjectiveTo study a deep learning-based dual-modality fundus camera which was used to study retinal blood oxygen saturation and vascular morphology changes in eyes with branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). MethodsA prospective study. From May to October 2020, 31 patients (31 eyes) of BRVO (BRVO group) and 20 healthy volunteers (20 eyes) with matched gender and age (control group) were included in the study. Among 31 patients (31 eyes) in BRVO group, 20 patients (20 eyes) received one intravitreal injection of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor drugs before, and 11 patients (11 eyes) did not receive any treatment. They were divided into treatment group and untreated group accordingly. Retinal images were collected with a dual-modality fundus camera; arterial and vein segments were segmented in the macular region of interest (MROI) using deep learning; the optical density ratio was used to calculate retinal blood oxygen saturation (SO2) on the affected and non-involved sides of the eyes in the control group and patients in the BRVO group, and calculated the diameter, curvature, fractal dimension and density of arteriovenous in MROI. Quantitative data were compared between groups using one-way analysis of variance. ResultsThere was a statistically significant difference in arterial SO2 (SO2-A) in the MROI between the affected eyes, the fellow eyes in the BRVO group and the control group (F=4.925, P<0.001), but there was no difference in the venous SO2 (SO2-V) (F=0.607, P=0.178). Compared with the control group, the SO2-A in the MROI of the affected side and the non-involved side of the untreated group was increased, and the difference was statistically significant (F=4.925, P=0.012); there was no significant difference in SO2-V (F=0.607, P=0.550). There was no significant difference in SO2-A and SO2-V in the MROI between the affected side, the non-involved side in the treatment group and the control group (F=0.159, 1.701; P=0.854, 0.197). There was no significant difference in SO2-A and SO2-V in MROI between the affected side of the treatment group, the untreated group and the control group (F=2.553, 0.265; P=0.088, 0.546). The ophthalmic artery diameter, arterial curvature, arterial fractal dimension, vein fractal dimension, arterial density, and vein density were compared in the untreated group, the treatment group, and the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (F=3.527, 3.322, 7.251, 26.128, 4.782, 5.612; P=0.047, 0.044, 0.002, <0.001, 0.013, 0.006); there was no significant difference in vein diameter and vein curvature (F=2.132, 1.199; P=0.143, 0.321). ConclusionArterial SO2 in BRVO patients is higher than that in healthy eyes, it decreases after anti-anti-vascular endothelial growth factor drugs treatment, SO2-V is unchanged.
To investigate the influence of injury of nutrient artery on the blood supply of inner 2/3 of cortical and intramedullary tissue, the experiment was carried out on twenty-four rabbits. Four rabbits were killed and perfused with Chinese ink in femoral artery to survey the blood supply of intramedullary vessels. Others were received fracture on tibia and sacrificed respectively on the third, eighth, eighteenth, twenty-eighth, and forty-second days after fracture. Chinese ink was also perfused through femoral artery on those rabbits. The relative density of capillary vessels were determined. The results were as follows: when the nutrient artery was injured after fracture, blood supply to the intramedullary tissue and the inner 2/3 of cortical bone was interrupted. The intramedullary vessels were increared and dilated. During the whole course of healing of fraeture, the density of intramedullary capillary vessels were higher than normal. It was concluded that the anastomosis between the epiphysis and metaphysis was important in the reconstruction of collateral circulation in healing of fracture.
Objective To investigate the morphological changes of the proximalfemur and their implication to the total hip arthroplasty in patients with Crowe Ⅱ/Ⅲ developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). Methods The experimental gr oup was composed of 15 hips in 14 patients (Crowe Ⅱ, 9 hips; Crowe Ⅲ, 6 hips ) with osteoarthritis secondary to Crowe Ⅱ/Ⅲ DDH (2 males, 12 females; age, 35-61 years). None of the patients had accepted any osteotomy treatment. The control group was composed of 15 normal hips in 15 patients with unilateral DDH (3 males, 12 females; age, 35-57 years). Twelve hips came from the experimental group and the other 3 came from the patients with unilateral Crowe Ⅰ DDH. The femurswere examined with the CT scanning. The following parameters were measured: theheight of the center of the femoral head (HCFH), the isthmus position (IP), theneckshaft angle(NS), the anteversion angle, the canal flare index, and the canal width. Then, the analysis of the data was conducted. Results HCFH and IP in theexperimental group and the control group were 50.1±6.7 mm, 50.1±7.4 mm, and 107.4±21.5 mm, 108.7±18.1 mm,respectively, which had no significant differencebetween the two groups(Pgt;0.05). In the experimental group and the control group, the NS were 138.3±10.0° and 126.7±5.7°,the anteversion angles were 36.5±15.9° and 18.8±5.4°, and the canal flare indexes were 4.47±0.40and 5.01±0.43. There was a significant difference between the two groups in the above 3 parameters (Plt;0.05). As for the canal width of the femur, therewasa significant difference in the interior/exterior widths and the anterior/posterior widths at the level of 2 cm above the lesser trochanter and 4 cm belowthe lesser trochanter between the two groups (Plt;0.05); however, there was nosignificant difference in the canal width of the femur at the isthmus between the two groups(P>0.05). Conclusion It is necessary to evaluate the morphology of the proximal femur before the total hip arthroplasty performed in patients with Crowe Ⅱ/Ⅲ DDH. The straight and smaller femoral prosthesis should be chosen and implanted in the proper anteversion position duringoperation.
