Objective To study the relationships between expressions of somatostatin receptor subtypes(SSTR1-SSTR5) and angiogenesis in colorectal cancer. Methods The expressions of SSTR1-SSTR5, VEGF, and CD34 in the paraffin sections of colorectal cancer tissues from 127 cases were detected by the standard streptavidin-peroxidase (SP) technique. CD34 was used as a marker to account microvessel density (MVD) in colorectal cancer tissues. The relationships between the expressions of SSTR1-SSTR5 and VEGF expression, or MVD were analyzed. Results The positive expression rate of SSTR1, SSTR2, SSTR3, SSTR4, and SSTR5 was 64.6% (82/127), 36.2% (46/127), 18.9% (24/127), 18.9% (24/127), and 38.6% (49/127) in colorectal cancer tissues, meanwhile, the positive expression rate of VEGF was 63.8% (81/127) and MVD was (34.67±16.62)/HP in colorectal cancer tissues. The positive expression rate of VEGF (47.8%, 22/46) and MVD 〔(29.00±15.32)/HP〕 in colorectal cancer tissues with SSTR2 positive expression were significantly lower than those in colorectal cancer tissues with SSTR2 negative expression 〔72.8%, 59/81; (37.90±16.56)/HP〕, Plt;0.05. There were no relationships between SSTR1, SSTR3, SSTR4, and SSTR5 expression and VEGF expression or MVD (Pgt;0.05). Conclusion The positive expression of SSTR2 is related with angiogenesis in colorectal cancer tissues.
OBJECTIVE To introduce a method to repair the vagina following pelvic exenteration for carcinoma of rectum in which the posterior wall of the vagina and cervix of the uterus were often involved. METHODS From 1990 to 1997 segment of the vascularized ileum was used to repair the vagina in 5 cases, and in 2 of which the whole vagina was repaired while in the other 3 cases only the posterior wall of the vagina was repaired. RESULTS All of the patients had successful results after operation repair. CONCLUSION Vascularized graft was an ideal material for the repair of vagina defect following pelvic exenteration for carcinoma of rectum, because this material was easily accessible, and its vascular pedicle was long enough for its transferring to the perineal region and the ileum had good blood supply which made healing easy. The vagina following repair had a thick posterior wall, good elasticity and very little scar tissue surrounded.
ObjectiveTo explain the advantage of laparoscopic endoscopic rendezvous procedures used to treat rectal carcinoma, and predict the future direction of the surgery methods for rectal carcinoma. MethodsA review and summary based on the clinical experience of our hospital and the published researches about the laparoscopic endoscopic rendezvous procedures over the past years in home and abroad were performed. ResultsLaparoscopy can monitor the situation of the abdominal cavity.Endoscopy can detect the location of rectal carcinoma.Laparoscopic endoscopic rendezvous procedures used to treat rectal carcinoma can combine the advantage of each other. And the purpose of "less invasion, less pain, and faster recovery" will be achieved. The effect of "1+1 > 2" will be realized. ConclusionLaparoscopy and transanal endoscopic microsurgery hybrid could be a naive form of nature orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery to treat rectal carcinoma.
Objective To discuss the differences of the effects on open colorectal cancer operation between using ultracision harmonic scalpel (UHS) and monopolar electrosurgery. Methods Fifty-nine patients from April to December in 2007, suffering colorectal cancer in the same treatment group, underwent open radical operation, 29 by GEN300 UHS (UHS group) and 30 by monopolar electrosurgery as control group. There was no significant difference between two groups among the factors of age, gender, tumor location, Dukes staging, gross morphology and degree of histological differentiation (Pgt;0.05). Results Shorter incision was applied in UHS group than in the control group. The mean operation time of UHS group and control group were 126 and 119 min, respectively (Pgt;0.05). The mean operative blood loss was 50 (20-140) ml in UHS group and 90 (40-200) ml in control group (Pgt;0.05). There were no significant differences among factors of bowel function recovery, mean hospitalization and incidence of complications between two groups (Pgt;0.05). The mean time for postoperative drainage fluid changing from bloody to serous was 8 (2-20) h in UHS group, however, 48 (16-80) h in control group (Plt;0.05). Conclusion In open colorectal cancer operation, benefits of using UHS are shorter incision and minimally invasiveness.
ObjectiveTo summarize the recent research progress on pathogenesis of human arrest defective 1(ARD1) protein in colorectal cancer and treatment process. MethodsSearched the related literatures from the databases such as CNKI, PubMed and so on, the relevant ARD1 in the development, diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer were reviewed. ResultsARD1 has effect of anti colorectal cancer, it can inhibit the proliferation and promote apoptosis of colorectal cancer cells, and improve the sensitivity of colorectal cancer cells to anticancer drugs at the cellular level. The treatment is mainly through the induction of cancer cell apoptosis or (and) decreased the proliferation ability of cancer cells, thus delaying the disease process. However, it is still in the research stage of animal experiments, which can not be directly applied to clinical practice. Conciusions ARDl study on the mechanism of anti colorectal cancer cells has become the focus of research with animal research and promotion, and provide new therapy concepts and measures for diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer.
