  • Mental fatigue state recognition method based on convolution neural network and long short-term memory

The pace of modern life is accelerating, the pressure of life is gradually increasing, and the long-term accumulation of mental fatigue poses a threat to health. By analyzing physiological signals and parameters, this paper proposes a method that can identify the state of mental fatigue, which helps to maintain a healthy life. The method proposed in this paper is a new recognition method of psychological fatigue state of electrocardiogram signals based on convolutional neural network and long short-term memory. Firstly, the convolution layer of one-dimensional convolutional neural network model is used to extract local features, the key information is extracted through pooling layer, and some redundant data is removed. Then, the extracted features are used as input to the long short-term memory model to further fuse the ECG features. Finally, by integrating the key information through the full connection layer, the accurate recognition of mental fatigue state is successfully realized. The results show that compared with traditional machine learning algorithms, the proposed method significantly improves the accuracy of mental fatigue recognition to 96.3%, which provides a reliable basis for the early warning and evaluation of mental fatigue.

  • Long term power frequency electromagnetic fields exposure influences the causal network connection pattern of local field potentials during working memory

The possible influence of electromagnetic field (EMF) on the function of neural systems has been widely concerned. In this article, we intend to investigate the effects of long term power frequency EMF exposure on brain cognitive functions and it’s mechanism. The Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: the rats in EMF Ⅰ group were placed in the 2 mT power frequency EMF for 24 days. The rats in EMF Ⅱ group were placed in the 2 mT power frequency EMF for 48 days. The rats in control group were not exposed to the EMF. Then, the 16 channel local field potentials (LFPs) were recorded from rats’ prefrontal cortex (PFC) in each group during the working memory (WM) tasks. The causal networks of LFPs were also established by applying the directed transfer function (DTF). Based on that, the differences of behavior and the LFPs network connection patterns between different groups were compared in order to investigate the influence of long term power frequency EMF exposure on working memory. The results showed the rats in the EMF Ⅱ group needed more training to reach the task correction criterion (over 80%). Moreover, the causal network connection strength and the global efficiency of the rats in EMF Ⅰ and EMF Ⅱ groups were significantly lower than the corresponding values of the control group. Meanwhile, significant differences of causal density values were found between EMF Ⅱ group and the other two groups. These results indicate that long term exposure to 2 mT power frequency EMF will reduce the connection strength and the information transfer efficiency of the LFPs causal network in the PFC, as well as the behavior performance of the rats. These results may explain the effect of EMF exposure on working memory from the view of neural network connectivity and provide a support for further studies on the mechanism of the effect of EMF on cognition.

  • HISTOCOMPATIBILITY OF POROUS HYDROXYAPATITE COATING NITI SHAPE MEMORY ALLOY

Objective To evaluate the histocompatibil ity of porous hydroxyapatite (HAP) coating NiTi shape memory alloy and to provide a theoretical basis for its cl inical appl ication in bone defect repair. Methods Twenty-four Chinchilla rabbits weighing 2.0-2.5 kg were randomized into experimental group and control group (n=12). HAP coating NiTi shape memory alloy was implanted into the distal part of left femur of 12 rabbits in the experimental group, while holes without alloy implantation were performed on the control group. At 7, 14, 28 and 56 days after implantation, the animals werekilled (3 rabbits in each group at a time). Gross observation, histology observation, BMP-2 immunohistochemistry observation and image grey scale analysis were performed. And the histology observation was evaluated by GB/T16886.6-1997 in terms of inflammation, capsule wall of fibrous tissue, materials degradation and the response of peripheral tissue. Results All of the animals survived until being killed. The implants reached a peak embedded in bone tissue wholly, without loosening and bone absorption. The inflammatory cell infiltration and fibrous hyperplasia were at 7 days after implantation, with the formation of cyst wall of fibrous tissue and the implant wrapped by the cyst wall. The response of connective tissue proliferation was still obvious in partial samples of experimental group at 56 days after implantation, which was wrose than the control group but consistent with the in vivo implantation standard of GB/T16886.6-1997. Immunohistochemistry observation displayed the endogenous BMP-2 were in the cytoplasm of MSCs and osteoblast. The result of image analysis showed the expression of BMP-2 were staged in line with the repair of bone defect, two groups witnessed the peak expression of the BMP-2 at 14 days after implantation. There wereno significant differences among different time points in the staining gray scale of BMP-2 (P gt; 0.05). Conclusion HAP coating NiTi shape memory alloy, as a biomedical material, has excellent histocompatibility with bone.

  • DEVELOPMENT AND BIOMECHANICAL STUDY OF NI-TI SHAPE MEMORY ALLOYS SCAPHOID ARC NAIL

【Abstract】 Objective To develop a new internal fixator Ni-Ti shape memory alloy scaphoid arc nail (NT-SAN)for fracture of the scaphoid waist and to test the biomechanical characteristics of NT-SAN so as to provide the biomechanicalproofs for cl inical appl ication. Methods According to the acquired measurements and anatomic features of the scaphoid in Chinese population, a special internal fixator—— NT-SAN was designed. The biomechanical intensity experiment: The 32 specimens of fractures of the waist of scaphoid were divided randomly into 4 groups (n =8). Reduction and internal fixation were carried out in each specimen, with Kirschner wires (Group A), with Kirschner wires stapl ing (Group B), with screw (Group C) and with NT-SAN (Group D). Their fixed strength was tested by a hydrol ic pressure biomechanical system AG-1. The biomechanical fatigue experiment: The models of 24 waist scaphoid fracture of adult upper l imbs specimens were made and randomly divided into 3 groups (n =8). Fracture was fixed with Kirschner wire stapl ing (Group E), with screw(Group F) and with NTSAN(Group G). Wrist joint was vertically pressured load of 98 N, palmar flexion and dorsal extension motion was simulated;the range of movement was from palmar flexion 5° to dorsal extension 30° and the frequency was 2 000 cycles. Displace data offragment were measured at every 500 cycles. Finally, the biomechanical features of NT-SAN were evaluated according to thetested data. NT-SAN was used to treated 1 patient with fracture of the waist of scaphoid, who was typed as Ⅱ b according to Herbert classification. Results The biomechanical tests showed that the traction forces were (15.18±3.55), (36.04±4.30),(64.88±11.62), (65.84±12.22) N and (20.28±12.09), (75.95±47.64), (120.91±26.68), (130.21±31.55) N when the displacements of the fracture l ines distracted in 1 mm/min were 1 mm and 2 mm; showing significant differences between Group D and groups A, B (P lt; 0.05), and showing no significant difference between Group D and Group C (P lt; 0.05). The biomechanical fatigue experiment showed that there were significant differences between Group G and groups E, F(P lt; 0.05) according to the measuredresults of the displacements of the fracture l ines. When wrist joint were circularly moved; showing significant differences between Group G and Group E(P lt; 0.05) after 500 circular movements, and showing significant differences between Group G and Group F(P lt; 0.05) after 1 500 circular movements according to the measured results of the “stage-shape” displacements in the fracture position. Incision healed by first intention and the X-ray films showed good NT-SAN fixation 3 months after followup. Conclusion The design of NT-SAN is in accordance with the anatomic features of the scaphoid. The fixed strength can meet the demand of the biomechanics and the range of fatigue strength can meet the demand of bony union.

  • Research on the effect of background music on spatial cognitive working memory based on cortical brain network

Background music has been increasingly affecting people’s lives. The research on the influence of background music on working memory has become a hot topic in brain science. In this paper, an improved electroencephalography (EEG) experiment based on n-back paradigm was designed. Fifteen university students without musical training were randomly selected to participate in the experiment, and their behavioral data and the EEG data were collected synchronously in order to explore the influence of different types of background music on spatial positioning cognition working memory. The exact low-resolution brain tomography algorithm (eLORETA) was applied to localize the EEG sources and the cross-correlation method was used to construct the cortical brain function networks based on the EEG source signals. Then the characteristics of the networks under different conditions were analyzed and compared to study the effects of background music on people’s working memory. The results showed that the difference of peak periods after stimulated by different types of background music were mainly distributed in the signals of occipital lobe and temporal lobe (P < 0.05). The analysis results showed that the brain connectivity under the condition with background music were stronger than those under the condition without music. The connectivities in the right occipital and temporal lobes under the condition of rock music were significantly higher than those under the condition of classical music. The node degrees, the betweenness centrality and the clustering coefficients under the condition without music were lower than those under the condition with background music. The node degrees and clustering coefficients under the condition of classical music were lower than those under the condition of rock music. It indicates that music stimulation increases the brain activity and has an impact on the working memory, and the effect of rock music is more remarkable than that of classical music. The behavioral data showed that the response accuracy in the state of no music, classical music and rock music were 86.09% ± 0.090%, 80.96% ± 0.960% and 79.36% ± 0.360%, respectively. We conclude that background music has a negative impact on the working memory, for it takes up the cognitive resources and reduces the cognitive ability of spatial location.
