Objective To determine the effectiveness of sodium hyaluronate (SHA) in preventing intraperitoneal (IP) adhesion. Methods Thirty-eight rats were randomly divided into A,B,C groups, normal saline, 6% Dextran-40 or SHA were applied on the present serosal injury respectively, during operation. Biopsy was taken on the 14th postoperative day. Results There were statistically significant differences in the extent of adhesion among three groups (P<0.01). Mild inflammatory changes and less fibrous proliferation were found in group C by microscopy and decreased production of collagen (by fibroblast) and active mesothelial cells proliferation were observed in group C under electron microscope. Conclusion SHA appeares to reduce the extent of postoperative IP adhesion, which is more satisfactory than Dextran-40.
Objective To summarize the effect of biofilm (BF) on the occurrence of prosthetic joint infection (PJI). Methods The domestic and abroad original l iterature in recent years about the relationship between BF and PJI was reviewed. Results Infection is a critical compl ication for prosthetic joint replacement. Basic research showes one of the reasons for PJI is BF. After adherence of the bacteria to the surface of prosthetic joint, BF forms through a series of regulation andcontrol system. And it lead to the occurrence of PJI. Recently a lot of progress have been made in the research fields of BF related PJI, which have covered aetiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Different studies show that BF has close relationship with PJI. Conclusion BF is proved to have close relationship with PJI. It is important on cl inical significances to diagnose, treat, and prevent PJI.
ObjectiveTo study the prevention and treatment of restenosis after the stent placement in the latest progress. MethodsThere were four methods including drug-eluting stents, intracavitary illuminate, drug therapy, and mesenchymal stem cells, which prevented or treatment restenosis after stent placement. ResultsAll the four methods could reduce the postoperative restenosis rate after interventional treatment. Many experimental study of prevention and treatment of restenosis had obvious effect, but clinical curative effect was not very satisfactory, because of a series of problems such as safety, animal models, experiment method, and so on. ConclusionThe multiple factors and links caused restenosis should be considered fully, and interrupting the links or factors as far as possible could control the occurrence or development effectively.
Under the new era background of actively advocating the " active health” in the elderly, the prevention methods of falls not only include environmental modification, reasonable drugs, emotional support, disease prevention and control, etc., but exercise should also be integrated into them. Exercise training can significantly improve muscle strength, balance, and mobility in the elderly, thereby reducing the risk of falls. This paper reviews the biomechanical causes of falls in the elderly, the sports training prescriptions for fall prevention in the elderly, and the research prospects of sports training for fall prevention in the elderly. It is hoped that the elderly population could establish an active healthy lifestyle based on sports training, elevate the physical fitness continuously, reduce the fall injury, and improve the quality of life through strength, balance, and endurance training.
Objective To investigate and analyze the epidemic characteristics and factors of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) to provide foundation and make prevention and treatment policy. Methods Statistical analysis was conducted to analyze the current existing PTB prevention and control data in the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Zhushan County and corresponding prevention and treatment policy was proposed. Results Since 1997 when PTB was included into B infectious diseases in Zhushan County, 4 431 cases of PTB had been reported by the end of 2009. Annual reported incidence rate was 74.73 per 100 000 and the disease was found in 17 towns. All seasons witnessed the incidence but winter and summer had more sufferer. The youngest patient was 4 months whereas the oldest was 86 years old. The majority of the patients were from 20 to 59 years old, peasants were the main patients, and the incidence of male was higher than that of female. The use of chemotherapy resulted in a significant decline of PTB death rate. Poor immunity of elder group, population flow caused by poverty, low detection rate of patients and AIDS were the major causes to PTB epidemic. A lack of prevention and treatment in the grassroots hospital and difficulty to fully implement the Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course (DOTS) strategy in remote areas were also bottlenecks to PTB control process. Conclusion The followings should be performed to improve the quality of DOTS strategy implementation: strengthen the government’s commitment, provide policy and funding safeguard, conduct health education and health promotion widely, reinforce management according to the law, fully implement the DOTS strategy, and fortify the prevention and control construction.
It has been certificated that hip and knee arthroplasty can improve quality of life and relieving pain and discomfort for ageing population and patients with muscloskeletal disorders. However, the outcomes of prosthetic joint infections (PJI) after arthroplasty usually are disastrous. The incidence of PJI is lower, but the number of this population is huge, which makes the strong impacts on quality of life for patients and healthcare economics. This review discusses the prevention strategies of PJI based on clinical epidemiology, diagnostic definition, pathogenesis, microbiology and risk factors, combined with some guidelines for prevention surgical site infections published recently.
In order to verify the effectiveness of neural stump buried into the muscle in the prevention and treatment of neuroma, 17 cases were reported, in which 8 cases having 19 painful neuromas and 9 cases having 13 amputated meural stumps, buried into muscle. They wese followed up for 6 months to 40 months, It was shown that good and excellent results were obtained and no evidence of neuroma was observed in all cases except in one which had painful neuroma occurred from the failure of embedment of the neural stump into the muscle. The conclusion was that the neural stump buried into muscle was an effective method for the prevention and treatment of neuroma.
ObjectiveTo investigate the synergetic effects of the combination methylene blue or/and aprotinin on preventing postoperative intestinal adhesions (POIA).MethodsFourtyeight rabbits were divided into control group (group A), methylene blue group (group B), aprotinin group (group C), methylene blue+aprotinin group (group D). Each group contained 12 rabbits and established models of intestinal adhesions through laporotomy. Fourteen days after operation, the rabbits were reoperated to see whether there were adhesions and the degree of adhesions. ResultsThe adhesions of group A was the most serious, then in sequence were group B, C, group D showed very light adhesion. Group A was much more severe than B, C, D group (Plt;0.01); group D was very different from B, C group (P<0.05). ConclusionMethylene blue and aprotinin have significant effects on preventing POIA and the combination of the two drugs can have a synergetic effects on POIA.
H7N9, a novel avian influenza A virus that causes human infections emerged in February, 2013 in Anhui and Shanghai, China. The epidemic quickly spread to Zhejiang, Jiangsu and other neighbor provinces. As of May 30th, 2013, WHO had reported 132 cases, 37 (28%) of which died. Aiming at such serious outbreak of epidemic, we retrospectively analyzed its etiology, epidemiology, clinical characteristics, treatment, prevention and control based on data and evidence. Experience and evidence of the risk surveillance and management of such a novel anthropozoonosis lacks in China, or even lacks around the world. Quick and accurate identification of the rules and of the variation and transmission of avian influenza virus becomes a key to prevention, control and treatment. According to current best available evidence around the world, Chinese medicine and biomedicine should be put in to parallel use. Only realizing evidence-based decision making can we effectively prevent and control the epidemic, treat patients, and reduce the loss.
