  • A water maze for testing the motion of aquatic animal robots

The existing mazes are mainly used to study the learning and memory of animals. However, there is still a lack of corresponding maze and method in the aspect of the observation and test of aquatic animal robots. For this purpose, the authors have developed a three-dimensional water maze combined with bilayer multi-channel which equips with stratified lines and tick marks. This device is a rectangular structure composed of one square bottom and four rectangular side walls, and the channels of every side wall are composed of one upper channel and two lower channels. The center of the upper channels is in the vertical center line of every side wall, and the two uper channels of adjacent side walls are at 90° degrees with each other, and the two lower channels of adjacent side walls are at 45° degrees with each other. There are stratified lines and tick marks on the side wall to test the spatial location and movement trajectories of aquatic animals. The carp robot was put into the water maze for the underwater experimental detection. The success rates of left and right steering at 135, 90 and 45 degrees as well as forward motion of the carp robots (n = 10) were over 60%. This study showed that the device could be used to observe and test the motion of the carp robot.

  • Research and application of magnetic resonance coordinate transformation method for brain control technology of carp robots

To solve the problem of precise positioning of carp brain tissue coordinates, it is proposed in this paper for a method for transforming the coordinates of magnetic resonance imaging of carp brain tissue into the coordinates of electrode implantation using a brain stereotaxic apparatus. In this study, the 3.0T magnetic resonance imaging instrument was used to scan the carp brain. We independently established the three-dimensional positioning coordinate system of the brain, the three-dimensional coordinate assistance system of skull surface and the three-dimensional coordinate assistance system in brain tissue. After two coordinate transformations, the magnetic resonance image coordinates of the brain electrodes implantation sites were converted into the three-dimensional stereotactic coordinate system to guide the electrodes implantation. The experimental groups were divided into two groups, A and B. Group A was the group of magnetic resonance imaging apparatus combining with the brain stereotaxic apparatus, and group B was the group of brain atlas combining with the brain stereotaxic apparatus. Each group had 20 tails of carps (n = 20). This two methods were used to implant the electrodes into the cerebellar motor area. The underwater experiments of the carp robots were carried out to test the two methods. The results showed that the accuracy of the implanted electrodes were 90% in group A and 60% in group B. The success rate of group A was significantly higher than that of group B (P < 0.05). Therefore, the new method in this paper can accurately determine the coordinates of carp brain tissue.

  • Research on the influence of light with different wavelength on the motion behavior of carp robots

In order to study the effect of light with different wavelengths on the motion behavior of carp robots, phototaxis experiment, anatomical experiment, light control experiment and speed measurement experiment were carried out in this study. Blue, green, yellow and red light with different wavelength were used to conduct phototaxis experiments on carp to observe their movement behavior. By dissecting the skull bones of the carp to determine the appropriate location to carry the light control device, we independently developed a light control carrying device which was suitable for any illumination intensity environment. The experiment of the light-controlled carp robots was carried out. The motion behavior of the carp robot was checked by using computer binocular stereo vision technology. The motion trajectory of the carp robot was tracked and obtained by applying kernel correlation filter (KCF) algorithm. The motion velocity of the carp robot at different wavelengths was calculated according to their motion trajectory. The results showed that carps’ sensitivity to different light changed from strong to weak in the order of blue, red, yellow and green, so that using light with different wavelengths to control the speed of the carp robot has certain laws to follow. A new method to avoid brain damage in carp robots control can be provided in this study.

  • Classification system of the causes of pediatric drug shortages in China: a systematic review

ObjectiveTo systematically review the classification system for the causes of pediatric drug shortages in China, and classify the causes of pediatric drug shortages accurately, so as to provide references for the formulation of targeted strategies. MethodsFour databases including Embase, PubMed, CBM and CNKI were searched from inception to November 2023. Quantitative research, qualitative research and mixed-method research on the causes of pediatric drug shortages in China were included. Two researchers independently screened the literature and extracted data. Based on the theory of efficient market and effective government, and according to the life cycle of the drug supply chain, the fundamental causes of drug shortages were classified and summarized by thematic synthesis. ResultsFourteen articles were included. According to the four stages of the drug supply chain (research and development, production, circulation and use), a total of 19 categories of causes of the pediatric drug shortages were summarized, including 5 categories in the research and development stage, 4 categories in the production stage, 6 categories in the circulation stage, and 4 categories in the use stage. Based on the theory of efficient market and effective government, further analysis of the causes revealed that the identified reasons could be attributed to three major fundamental causes: market failure, government failure, and other causes. Among them, 6 categories were related to market failure, 7 categories were related to government failure, and 6 categories were classified as other causes. ConclusionBased on the theory of efficient market and effective government, this study established a classification system of fundamental causes of the pediatric drug shortages, and made policy suggestions accordingly. Subsequently, the classification system established in this study can be used as references to develop targeted strategies to solve the problem of pediatric drug shortages in the life cycle of drug supply chain from government and market perspectives.

  • Omalizumab in the treatment of children with asthma: a rapid health technology assessment

ObjectiveTo evaluate the efficacy, safety, and economics of omalizumab for the treatment of pediatric asthma through a rapid health technology assessment (HTA). MethodsThe search was conducted on INAHTA website and databases such as PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, SinoMed, CNKI, VIP, and WanFang Data from inception to August 2024. Literature screening, quality evaluation, and data extraction were conducted independently by two investigators. An interview was conducted to consult the medication and treatment opinions of doctors and patients to investigate its clinical application. ResultsA total of 28 articles, including HTA articles (4), SR/Meta analyses (18), and pharmacoeconomics articles (6) were included. Omalizumab could reduce the incidence of clinical exacerbations, decrease the number of asthma attacks/days with asthma symptoms, and improve qualification of life. The results of the safety evaluation showed that omalizumab could reduce the rate of serious adverse events, especially those related to worsening asthma. Foreign pharmacoeconomic studies showed ICER ranging from £30 109 to £78 009. A pharmacoeconomic study in China found an ICER of $211 217/QALY for omalizumab, which were both above the pre-set thresholds. ConclusionOmalizumab is a treatment for patients who suffer from moderate to severe persistent allergic asthma or moderate to severe allergic asthma. It has been found to improve disease symptoms without increasing serious adverse events. However, it is not considered cost-effective due to its high price.

  • Evidence certainty grading of network meta-analysis: method update and case application

Network meta-analysis (NMA) is a method that can compare and rank the effects of different interventions, which plays an important role in evidence translation and evidence-based decision-making. In 2014, the GRADE working group first introduced the GRADE method for NMA evidence certainty grading. Since then, its method system has been gradually supplemented and improved. In recent years, the GRADE working group has further improved the methods for evaluating intransitivity and imprecision in NMA, and has made recommendations for the presentation and interpretation of NMA results, forming a complete methodological chain of NMA evidence certainty grading and result interpretation consisting of 6 steps. Our team updated the method system of GRADE applied in NMA with specific cases to provide references for relevant researchers.
